FreeScan scanners use a dongle-based license.
When a scanner is shipped, the dongle includes a limited 3-month license. Users can request an update to either a permanent license or a limited license that needs to be renewed periodically. This decision is up to each user, so we recommend discussing it with a technical support agent.
In this article, we will walk you through the step-by-step process to correctly update your dongle license.

When the dongle is connected, its light should shine red.
If the following message appears when opening the software, a dongle update is required.
1. Collect the dongle information
For the update, the required tool can be downloaded from this link.
Once the UE_DongleUpdateTool.exe is downloaded, it should be double-clicked to start. Then, select 'Update of existing protection key' and click the 'Collect information' button.
Then, a new window will appear. The location for saving the c2v file should be selected, and then click on 'Save'.
2. Send the collected information
The c2v file should be sent to metrology_support@shining3d.com.
Important: The model type being used (UE Pro, UE Pro2, Trio, Combo or Combo+) should also be included, along with the serial numbers of the calibration board and scanner. To avoid any spelling issues, a picture of the board, as shown below, can be provided."
3. Update the dongle
A V2CP file will be sent via email. Once received, save the file on your PC. Then, reopen the UE_DongelUpdateTool.exe and go to the 'Apply License File' tab. Afterward, click on the button with the three dots.
A new window will appear. Navigate to the location where the V2CP file was saved. Select the file and click on "Open".
Then, click “Apply Update”.
A message appears indicating that the update was successful.
